Etnografía en una ciudad de frontera

RESUMEN

En un trabajo anterior hacia mención sobre el crecimiento de Bermejo y como se fue constituyendo de Canton en Ciudad. En aquella oportunidad señalaba que los componentes claves en los procesos de formación de nucleamientos urbanos, es la instalación de industrias, que le dan a la región un impulso económico, y se constituyen casi inmediatamente en un importante polo receptor de población migrante. Así, he señalado que la urbanización y el posterior desarrollo de la economía re­gional, en Bermejo, se ha conformado a partir del impulso dado por los tres ejes dinamizadores: la industria petrolera, la explotación agropecuaria, y el comercio de frontera (Jerez 1998).

A la luz de estas transformaciones, las identidades sociales y culturales de los distintos sectores que constituyen la ciudad fronteriza de Bermejo, se fueron construyendo y resignificando a medida que se encontraban, a la vez que se fue consolidando la presencia de ‘lo urbano’ y ‘lo moderno’. En este trabajo vamos a reflexionar sobre el contexto urbano, y las características y representaciones de los habitantes.

ABSTRACT

In a previous work I mentioned Bermejo’s growth and how it changed from a canton into a city. In that opportunity I pointed out that the key component in the establishing processes of urban groupings is the setting of factories which gave the region an economic impulse and immediately became an important receptor center for migrating population. Thus, I have pointed out that urbanization and the later development of regional economy in Bermejo have risen from the impulse given by the three dynamic axes: the oil industry, agricultural exploitation and frontier commerce (Jerez 1998).

In the light of these changes, cultural and social identities of the different sectors constituting the frontier city of Bermejo, were built and got a new significance while they were put together, thus consolidating the presence of "the urban" and "the modern". In this work we are going to focus on the urban context and the inhabitants’ representations and characteristics.
